5 Things Actually Worth Buying on Amazon India (And 5 That Aren't)
After a year of ordering basically everything on Amazon India, a pattern emerged. Some categories consistently deliver great value; others are better bought offline or elsewhere. Here's the honest split.
### Worth buying on Amazon
**1. Books.** Prices are routinely 30-40% below MRP, returns are painless, and originals are almost guaranteed. The Gopi Diaries series we recommend is a perfect example.
**2. Kitchen gadgets and home organisers.** The tumbler, blender and vacuum on our Picks page all live here - the review volume is huge, so bad products get exposed fast.
**3. Kindle devices and accessories.** Amazon makes the Kindle, so pricing and warranty are unbeatable.
**4. Everyday essentials in bulk.** Tissues, detergent, coffee, pet food - Subscribe & Save quietly undercuts the neighbourhood shop.
**5. Branded small appliances.** Philips, Ninja, Havells - official storefronts with proper warranty, often cheaper than brand stores.
### Better bought elsewhere
**1. Clothing (except basics).** Sizing is a lottery and return pickups get rejected. Shop in-store or from the brand's own site.
**2. Jewellery and watches.** Too many counterfeit listings even from "fulfilled" sellers. Buy from authorised retailers.
**3. Furniture.** Delivery damage rates are high and returns are painful. Local stores will negotiate and deliver assembled.
**4. Fresh groceries.** Amazon Fresh quality varies wildly by city. Local vendors or quick-commerce apps do it better.
**5. High-end electronics.** Compare with Croma/Reliance first - their card offers often beat Amazon, and installation support is better.
### The rule of thumb
If a product is standardised (a book is a book, a blender is a blender), Amazon wins. If fit, feel or freshness matters, shop somewhere you can touch it first.
